The Care Inspectorate Scotland’s ‘The Promise’ is a vital part of plans to strengthen Scotland’s care system to become more caring and collaborative. The project focuses on putting care experienced young people’s voices, views and experiences front-and-centre in order to transform their care experience.
Clearcare has been empowering care providers for over 22 years. Initially focused on residential childcare, over 2100 children’s homes across England and Scotland use Clearcare; and growing. Customer demand has enabled us to expand within supported accommodation and adult care provisions.
With a deep understanding of residential childcare, we understand the importance of giving young people in care, the power and tools to make their voices heard.
In this blog, we’ll take a look at how Clearcare helps Scottish children’s homes and supported accommodation provisions to better evidence and deliver child-centred care.
Putting Children’s Voices at the Heart of Their Care Experience with our Kids App
“We want babies, young people and their families to…
…feel that their voices are heard in decision making about them and that their rights have been protected, respected and realised.”
Clearcare’s Kids App is an innovative communication tool that gives young people a new way to communicate with care staff.
With many children feeling more comfortable communicating digitally, the Kids App can give young people the confidence to make their voices heard.
The Kids App isn’t designed to replace face-to-face communication – It simply gives young residents an additional tool to express themselves, and to store their memories.
Through the app, young people can:
- Give care delivery feedback
- Access staff on shift
- Capture memories
- Earn rewards
Inclusivity is at the heart of the Kids App
The Kids app offers a range of methods for children to communicate, allowing them to make themselves heard in whichever way they feel most comfortable. This could be through written entries, voice notes, drawings and/or emojis. The app even has a journal feature, complete with the option to upload photographs and videos so that children can keep their own records of their time in care.
Additionally, giving multiple visual and verbal communication options ensures that young children and those whose first language isn’t English can be included and have a new way to make their voices heard.
However children feel comfortable communicating, the Kids App empowers them, helping to build their confidence and standing them in good stead for when they eventually leave the care system.
Directly Contribute to Life Story Work
Our Kids App enables children to contribute to their life story work in an age-appropriate format. Uploading memories of moments that matter to the child, including pictures and videos, ensures a more accurate and engaging life story to look back on in years to come.
Increased Stability & Routine
The rota functionality lets users easily see which staff will be available and when, which provides a greater sense of predictability and structure, helping young people to feel more secure.
Better Evidence Child-Centred Care
All information collected via the Kids App can be analysed in our reporting module and included in regulatory reports to better demonstrate the inclusion of the child’s voice and how it has informed care planning.
Deliver and Evidence High-Quality Personalised Care
“We want babies, young people and their families to…
…experience high-quality, trauma-informed, compassionate care and support”
Ensuring that your care team has access to up-to-date information and the right tools to do their job is essential for delivering high-quality care. Through Clearcare, your staff can access a real-time overview of care delivery, including viewing tasks and deadlines, helping to reduce risk and protect against poor practice. With in-built and intuitive workflows, management has peace of mind that procedures and processes are followed, providing an accurate audit trail to evidence care delivery.
